Anonymity is almost non-existant. Posting a question or a comment on the internet without mentioning your name does not make you anonymous. In fact, every time you "click" on anything, your fame multiplies in the land of Google, Yahoo! and thousands of other websites who are eager to discover everything about their "nameless" consumers. Believe it or not, but every step you make online is and will be remembered for a long time, if not forever. All the random links you open, add more information to the personal file that the internet has on you. Sounds like I am talking about the police or the FBI, doesn't it? Well, maybe it is like the FBI. Imagine how fast google will track you down if you ever try to harm them... They will know the exact websites you visited at every single point throughout the life of your computer, all the pop-ups you stumbled upon and even the strangers you met on Chatroulette. Through a few clicks, they will probably find out all about your hobbies, tastes and maybe even identify your personality if not your name. Do you want to post an extremely controversial opinion that could cause you problems with the government? Think twice. The reality is that while I was writing this short paragraph 8 different websites have gotten information about me, all through a single source. Is this what democracy is or are we taking a step towards totalitarianism and no freedom? I believe this sort of control is against freedom of speech and if you are not afraid that people will know who you are, say what you think. Will I ever visit or post anything that I might be ashamed of? Probably not. But I will tell the world how I feel and, if for some strange reason I will desire to stay anonymous, I will rather write it to a newspaper where I can use a realistic pseudonym.

Corporations Are A Bunch Of Psychopaths!

The 2003 documentary, The Corporation disappointed my view of the modern business world. I grew-up in a society where young boys since the age of 10 talk about their desire to work for big companies like Nike, Adidas and many others. These innocent kids, don't understand that by joining one of the following enterprises, they risk not only their own reputations but also other peoples' lives are endangered. Thus before the 14th amendment was passed, the corporation was not considered a human being but with the establishment of the new rights, companies gained their benefits. Yet, a companies behavior can definitely be described as "normal," by looking at different psychological factors, the movie director established that it's behavioral traits most closely resemble a psychopath. A corporation has no concern for the feelings or safety of others, it repeatedly lies for profit and does not experience any guilt. In fact, its' incapacity to maintain relationships does not allow it to conform to social norms with respect to lawful behavior. The question is, "how can we stop it?" Well, the answer is easy, don't just complain and judge, take actions.

Unfortunately, I don’t believe that I am capable of multitasking. Therefore, my activities limit me to less Media exposure at a time. Although throughout the project I combined the use of my laptop and my phone. Using my blackberry, exposed me more to the Orange company name and the use of my computer exposed me to the endless advertisements listed above. To be honesty, I was shocked when I started counting the amount of adverts I saw while visiting only a few websites. Now, I am just scared that my mind is going to become sympathetic to things that I am usually against of. For instance, meeting my future spouse online, which could be very risky or eating the most disguisting fast food because of the twisted message in the Ads’. However, not everything was bad from the media I saw.

By watching the shows and going to volleyball practice, I now understand some day-to-day habits that I never noticed before. Thus, I never knew how popular Italian brands or religious marriage were in the UK. On the other hand, I never ever expected almost all of my volleyball team to wear Adidas shoes rather than Nike who uses child-labor. 

To conclude, I was upset that most of the media I am exposed to is not voluntary. If you look above, only around 20-30 things were the one’s I chose to see, rather than notice somewhere. Most of my media came from the computer than the TV and lastly from the streets (printing and other). I believe that this is really bad because I have very small control of what I see and believe in. At any moment, the internet can become full of communist or some other parties advertisements and I’ll eventually find myself sympathizing with that party. This is absolutely awful! Out of the 12 hours, less than 4 were voluntary, luckily I am an adult and can learn to control myself unlike children who don’t have that privilege. All of the project was conducted in the Middle of the week and not on the weekend when I go out to public places and definitely expose myself to a lot more media than I did on Thursday. Finally, if I had the choice I won’t be constantly exposing myself to most of the sources above, I have no interest in Tami4 water, Texas or Russian Girls on the Internet. I need more control of what I see.
